ISO 22301
ISO 22301 specifying requirements for a business continuity management system to build organisational resilience.
ISO 22301 is an international management system standard that specifies requirements for planning, establishing, operating and continually improving a business continuity management system (BCMS). Its aim is to help an organisation prepare for, respond to and recover from disruptive incidents, whether caused by natural events, technology failures, supply chain interruptions or other threats, so that critical activities can continue at acceptable levels.
The standard follows the common high-level structure shared by ISO management system standards, which makes it straightforward to integrate with frameworks such as ISO 9001 and ISO/IEC 27001. Organisations can obtain independent certification of their BCMS against ISO 22301 through accredited certification bodies.
Identify critical activities, determine continuity priorities and recovery time objectives, and assess the risks of disruption.
Select and resource strategies and solutions to protect prioritised activities and restore them within required timeframes.
Document response structures, communication arrangements and recovery procedures to be used during and after an incident.
Validate continuity arrangements through exercises and tests and address any gaps identified.
