ISO27701:2019
ISO 27701, an extension of ISO 27001, establishes a framework for managing personally identifiable information (PII) and complying with privacy regulations.
ISO/IEC 27701 is the international standard for privacy information management. It extends ISO/IEC 27001 and ISO/IEC 27002 with privacy-specific requirements and controls, enabling organisations to build a Privacy Information Management System (PIMS) on top of their existing information security management system. It addresses the responsibilities of both data controllers and processors handling personally identifiable information (PII).
This record covers the 2019 first edition; a revised 2025 edition has since been published. ISO/IEC 27701 is widely used to operationalise privacy obligations and to demonstrate alignment with regulations such as the GDPR, and it is independently certifiable by accredited bodies.
Build privacy management on top of ISO/IEC 27001, adding privacy-specific policies and roles.
