NIST CSF
The NIST Cybersecurity Framework provides voluntary, flexible guidance to manage cyber risks.
The NIST Cybersecurity Framework (CSF) is a voluntary framework for managing and reducing cybersecurity risk. Originally created for US critical infrastructure, it has become one of the most widely adopted cybersecurity frameworks worldwide, valued for being outcome-based, flexible, and adaptable to organisations of any size or sector.
Version 2.0, published in February 2024, expanded the framework to all organisations and introduced a sixth core function, Govern, alongside the original five: Identify, Protect, Detect, Respond, and Recover. Together these functions provide a common language for assessing and improving cybersecurity posture.
Establish and monitor the organisation's cybersecurity risk-management strategy and governance.
Understand assets, risks, and the business context to manage cybersecurity risk.
Implement safeguards to ensure delivery of critical services.
Detect cybersecurity events, respond effectively, and restore capabilities after an incident.
